Wedding Season 2026 Outfit Countdown: What You Can Still Order, Stitch and Alter Before the November and December Muhurat Dates

Quick answer: The main Hindu wedding season of 2026 restarts after Dev Uthani Ekadashi on 20 November, and two widely used panchang calendars list the same vivah muhurat dates: 21, 24, 25 and 26 November, then 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11 and 12 December. If you are attending or part of a wedding on one of those dates, you have roughly four to seven weeks. That is too late for most made-to-order designer pieces, but enough to buy ready-to-wear and have it altered, get a blouse stitched, or restyle something you already own, as long as you start this week.
Wedding season always arrives faster than it seems. Diwali falls on 8 November this year, and the first muhurat dates come less than two weeks later, so many families are juggling festival shopping and wedding outfits at the same time. The result is a familiar scramble: a tailor who is booked up, a designer piece that will not ship in time, or a blouse that does not fit on the morning of the sangeet.
This guide works backwards from the 2026 muhurat dates. It covers which buying routes still fit your timeline, a week-by-week countdown, and the mistakes that cost people the most time.
The 2026 wedding dates, and why they bunch together

Hindu weddings traditionally avoid the four months of Chaturmas, which Bluestone's 2026 wedding calendar places from July to October. Dates resume after Devutthana or Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which Dekho Panchang lists for Friday 20 November 2026. That is why so many weddings land in the same few weeks.
Both SmartPuja's Vivah Muhurat 2026 calendar and Bluestone's 2026 panchang list these dates:
- November 2026: Saturday 21, Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26.
- December 2026: Wednesday 2, Thursday 3, Friday 4, Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Friday 11 and Saturday 12.
Treat these as a guide rather than a final word. Muhurats are calculated from the couple's horoscopes and can differ by panchang, region and community, so the family's own priest has the final say. If you are a guest, the invitation date is the one that matters; the list simply tells you how crowded the season will be for tailors, couriers and boutiques.
Which buying route still fits your timeline?

The biggest decision is not what to wear but how you will get it in time. Lead times published by sellers give a clear picture.
Route 1: Made-to-order designer wear
Expect this to be too slow for November weddings. On Pernia's Pop-Up Shop, for example, a hand-embellished designer lehenga set is listed as shipping 9 to 10 weeks after the order is placed. Bridal specialist Panache Haute Couture says couture lehengas with heavy hand embroidery can take four to six months to produce, and that peak season runs from July to February. Rana Saree, which ships internationally, advises against rushing custom handwork because dense techniques like gota patti, zardozi and mirror work cannot be hurried.
If you love a made-to-order piece, ask the seller in writing whether an early delivery option exists and what date they will commit to. Do not pay on the assumption that it can be rushed.
Route 2: Ready-to-wear plus alterations
This is the realistic route for most guests and family members now. Rana Saree suggests ordering ready-to-ship wedding-guest outfits four to six weeks ahead, and estimates about two to three weeks from order to delivery for international customers, including express courier and a customs buffer. Then allow time for alterations: Panache says most alterations take two to six weeks depending on the changes and appointment availability. Add those together and you can see why this week matters.
To keep alterations short, buy pieces that fit at the widest point of your body and only need taking in. Letting out a seam depends on how much fabric the maker left inside it, and embellished panels often cannot be moved at all.
Route 3: Re-wear and restyle what you own
The fastest route is often the one already in your wardrobe. A saree from a past wedding can look new with a different blouse, a lehenga skirt can be paired with a contemporary top or jacket, and a sherwani can be restyled with a new stole and footwear. We cover this in detail in our guide to re-wearing one lehenga, saree or sherwani at every function. The only lead time is a new blouse or minor alteration, which a local tailor can usually fit in sooner than a full outfit.
A week-by-week countdown from today

Here is a countdown for a wedding on the first muhurat date, 21 November. For a December wedding, shift each step later by the same number of weeks, but do not delay the first step.
This week (four to five weeks out)
- Decide the route for each function. List every event you are attending, from haldi and mehendi to the reception, and note whether each outfit is bought new, re-worn or restyled.
- Order anything ready-to-wear now. Check the stated dispatch time on the product page, not just the delivery estimate at checkout.
- Book your tailor. Take the saree, the blouse fabric and a blouse that already fits you well. A tailor can copy a proven fit far more reliably than measurements alone.

Elara builds the look from what you own, then lets you try it on.
- Hand over sarees for fall and pico. Most new sarees need a fall stitched along the inside hem and the raw edges finished. Ask your tailor how long they need in peak season.
Three weeks out
- First trial. Try every piece on with the undergarments and shoes you will actually wear. Blouse fit, kurta length and lehenga hem all change with heel height.
- Plan layers for the venue. Many of these dates fall in north Indian winter evenings. Our guide to staying warm in a saree, lehenga or sherwani covers thermals, shawls and jackets that work with traditional wear.
- Choose jewellery and footwear. Lay each full look out together, including the dupatta, so you can see whether colours and metals work.
Two weeks out
- Final fitting. Check you can sit, eat, dance and raise your arms. If a blouse pulls at the back when you lift your arms, ask for the armhole to be adjusted now rather than on the day.
- Break in new shoes. Wear them around the house for a few evenings.
- Steam, do not iron, heavy work. Steam embroidered and embellished pieces from the inside, or ask the tailor to press them with a cloth between the iron and the work.
The week of the wedding
- Pack by function, not by item. Put each outfit, its jewellery, dupatta pins and shoes in one labelled bag.
- Build an emergency kit: safety pins, a small sewing kit, double-sided fashion tape, blouse hooks, a stain pen and a spare petticoat drawstring.
Mistakes that cost the most time
- Assuming peak-season tailors work at normal speed. In November and December, tailors take on many weddings at once. Book first and choose fabric second if you have to.
- Taking measurements in the wrong undergarments. A blouse fitted over a different bra will sit differently on the day. Wear exactly what you will wear.
- Ordering custom handwork in the hope it can be rushed. Sellers are clear that dense embroidery cannot be sped up. If the dispatch date is after your function, choose another piece.
- Forgetting that some items are final sale. Pernia's listing, for example, states that custom-made orders are not returnable. Check the return policy before ordering anything personalised.
- Leaving the blouse until last. In a saree look, the blouse decides the fit and comfort. Start it first.
FAQ
What are the wedding dates in November and December 2026?
SmartPuja and Bluestone both list 21, 24, 25 and 26 November and 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11 and 12 December 2026 as vivah muhurat dates. Dates can differ by panchang and region, so confirm with the family's priest.
When does wedding season start after Diwali in 2026?
Weddings resume after Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which falls on Friday 20 November 2026 according to Dekho Panchang. The first muhurat date listed in both calendars above is Saturday 21 November.
How long does a made-to-order lehenga take?
It varies by maker and embroidery. One designer lehenga on Pernia's Pop-Up Shop lists shipping 9 to 10 weeks after order, and Panache Haute Couture says heavily embroidered couture lehengas can take four to six months.
How early should I give my blouse to the tailor for a wedding?
As early as possible in peak season. Panache says alterations typically take two to six weeks, so for a late November wedding, hand over the fabric and a well-fitting sample blouse this week.
Is it too late to order a wedding outfit online for a November 2026 wedding?
Not for ready-to-ship pieces. Rana Saree recommends ordering ready-to-ship guest outfits four to six weeks ahead. Check the dispatch time on the product page and leave time for alterations.
